Terms & Conditions
1. Fitting Fee: A fitting fee is charged for your initial UFP pointe shoe fitting appointment. We thought long and hard before introducing this fee, not least because it is unusual for dancewear shops to charge one and we know that ballet training is a costly hobby/profession. However, this investment covers the time (usually around 90 minutes), analysis and expertise provided during the fitting session along with the chance to try a much wider variety of shoes than would normally be possible in most stores. All prices are inclusive of VAT (where applicable).
2. Cancellation Policy: We require a minimum of 24 hours’ notice for any cancellations or rescheduling of appointments. Failure to provide sufficient notice may result in forfeiture of the fitting fee.
3. Liability: Whilst Unique Fitting Pointes will apply best endeavours and expertise to fit you with safe and supportive shoes, the company cannot be held liable for any injuries or damages that may occur as a result of wearing pointe shoes fitted by us. Dancers are responsible for ensuring that their shoes are properly maintained and used in accordance with their training and experience. We encourage first time pointe shoe wearers to work closely with their teacher(s) and/or healthcare professionals when dancing in pointe shoes, so as to minimise any pain, injury or disappointment.
4. Expert Advice: All advice and recommendations provided by Unique Fitting Pointes are based on our professional expertise, knowledge and experience. However, dancers are ultimately responsible for making their own decisions regarding the selection and use of pointe shoes.
5. Pointe Shoe Wear and Tear: Pointe shoe shanks and boxes are designed to be “broken in”. They are firm and sometimes quite rigid when new but need to be softened in order to be supple enough to dance in once you have sewn on the ribbons. When subjected to normal use, the shoes should last between 10 to 15 hours although this lifespan may be longer if you are only doing a few minutes of pointe work each week. Conversely, this lifespan may be shorter if you are an active professional or vocational dancer who is regularly performing demanding classical and neo-classical choreography. We cannot be held responsible for shoes which have been broken – as opposed to “broken in” – either because of unsupervised use or other misuse. If you are new to pointe work, we recommend that you follow the advice of your teacher as to how to break in your shoes. We would also advise caution when considering mimicking the “breaking in” practices you may see on social media. Most dancers who showcase their “breaking in” practices on social media are working in companies where they have a generous monthly supply of shoes.
6. Payment: Payment for fitting fees and pointe shoe purchases is due at the time of service. We currently accept cash and bank transfers.
7. Privacy Policy: We are committed to protecting your privacy. Any personal information collected during the fitting process will be used solely for the purpose of providing our services and will not be shared with third parties without your consent. Any information collected about your foot size, strength and shoe purchases will be kept securely.
8. Governing Law: These terms and conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales including the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
By booking a pointe shoe fitting appointment with Unique Fitting Pointes, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to these terms and conditions. If you have any questions or concerns about our terms and conditions, please get in touch with Eleanor Hogg
